Biotech Championships

High school students from all over Denmark compete in biotechnological solutions in Kalundborg.

Background

There is a known shortage of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) skills nationwide. This challenge is further exacerbated for companies outside the major education cities, where attracting highly specialised labour is crucial.

Attracting and retaining skilled labor is a challenge for Biotech City Kalundborg'sgrowing industry, with more than 1,200 new jobs created in the municipality in 2022 alone.

Purpose and Procedure

The purpose of the Biotech Championships is to focus on science, technology, biotech and process industries and how these areas contribute to the sustainable solutions of the future. And to inspire young people to choose an education and career path in STEM and make them aware of the many exciting opportunities in Biotech City Kalundborg.

Students will work with one of four cases within the topics of fermentation, enzyme activity, wastewater treatment and chemical synthesis. The four cases each represent elements that are crucial to the production processes at Novo Nordisk, Novonesis, Kalundborg Forsyning and Lundbeck, among others.
