
Developing educational programs, courses, and partnerships to ensure a greater supply of specialists for the biosolutions industry.
Biosolutions represent one of Denmark’s strongest opportunities for growth and sustainability. By combining biology and technology, biosolutions can contribute to green solutions in sectors such as industry, agriculture, construction, food, and transportation.
At the same time, the biosolutions industry is facing a growing shortage of specialized labor. Companies are increasingly seeking employees with skills in fields such as biology, biotechnology, AI, data modeling, automation, and process understanding.
Biosolutions Zealand III – The Path to Future Skills aims to address this need by developing new educational programs, strengthening recruitment for biosolutions programs, and creating closer ties between educational institutions and companies. The project has a national scope and aims to help more young people and adults recognize the opportunities in the biosolutions sector.
The project brings together educational institutions, business development organizations, and industry partners in a joint effort to develop the skills the biosolutions industry will need in the future.
The initiative is based on five main activities:
New higher education programs
The project supports the development of four new educational programs covering technical, biological, design-related, and data-driven aspects of biosolutions. These include new educational tracks in Creative Biofabrication, Applied Mathematics and Modeling, robotics, and mechanical engineering.
Practice-oriented courses
Six practice-oriented courses are being developed and tested, based on the specific needs of companies. The courses are designed to link theory with real-world cases and strengthen students’ competencies in areas such as industrial symbiosis, fermentation, modeling, biofabrication, robotics, and sustainable protein production.
Recruitment
The project aims to make it easier for young people and adults across the country to recognize biosolutions as an educational and career path. This is achieved through, among other things, educational days, digital open house events, and visibility at education fairs.
Demand and Retention
The project strengthens the link between students and companies, particularly SMEs. This is achieved through, among other things, case competitions, an SME panel, and the dissemination of information about opportunities for internships, student projects, and recruitment.
Nationwide Collaboration
The project establishes broader collaboration among higher education institutions in Denmark that offer programs relevant to the biosolutions sector. The collaboration aims to support knowledge sharing, flexible study programs, and joint promotion of educational and career opportunities.

The project is being carried out through a broad partnership between educational institutions and organizations with strong ties to the business community and the biosolutions industry.
Campus Kalundborg is leading the project in close collaboration with the partner network. The project is part of the Business Lighthouse for Biosolutions and aims to strengthen the development of future skills for the Danish biosolutions industry.
