Biosolutions Zealand II

Building and developing an international position of strength in the biosolutions sector

Background and Purpose

The ambition for Biosolutions Zealand II is for Denmark to be a global business beacon within biosolutions by supporting the sustainable biotechnologies of the future and the transition to a more energy-friendly and climate-neutral production.

The potential is huge and calls for investment in developing a strong ecosystem and competitive companies that contribute to the green transition. In particular, the needs of entrepreneurs and SMEs must be supported throughout the development phase from idea to commercialization.

How to proceed

Erhvervsfyrtårnet helps companies across the country with innovation and scaling of bio-based solutions in physical facilities.

Therefore, a wide range of actors across the public and private sectors have joined forces in innovative partnerships with the aim of developing new solutions and a solid infrastructure around biosolutions in Denmark.

The project focus areas are:

  • To gather an overview of all test, demonstration and pilot facilities within biosolutions throughout Denmark, so companies and entrepreneurs know all the possibilities and the connections between them.
  • Empowering companies to develop their sustainable technologies from labscale to scale-up and full-scale with vouchers that provide access to physical facilities across the country.
  • To support the development of physical facilities to create a coherent infrastructure with an optimal framework for developing, testing and scaling biotech products and solutions.
  • To support developments that combine innovation, knowledge and business in concrete innovation collaborations.
  • Supporting entrepreneurs and startups to become more competitive on their way to market.

Biosolutions has been designated as one of the eight lighthouses that the Ministry of Business and Industry and the Danish Business Promotion Board have designated as strategically important initiatives in 2021-2027.

The program is a continuation of the first phase of Biosolutions Zealand (2022-2023), where test facilities were developed in a unified infrastructure and new educational opportunities in biosolutions were established in Region Zealand, which is the epicenter of the lighthouse activities.

Expected results

Based on a competitive Danish business community and world-class research, we will create one of Europe's three most developed and attractive ecosystems for development, testing, scaling and production of biosolutions.

The ecosystem will contribute to increased green transition in many industries and be a source of inspiration for a rapidly growing international business area.
